It is sad that Jaspal Bhatti has died - the man who once starred on the doordarshan with Ulta Pulta, and Flop Show, at a time when there was so less comedy on the indian television. In a way, he was the precurser of the comedy genre in the indian - before his arrival, comic elements were only seen in the mainstream indian cinema, but he perhaps the first who brought the humour to the indian living rooms through his very popular tv shows before the arrival of the private indian channels.
He made comic movies too - in Punjabi; acted in Bollywood blockbusters; carried on with his theatre productions - and died yesterday when the car in which he was traveling crashed into a tree at around 3 am near Nakodar in Punjab. Incidentally, he was returning back to his home - he was on 40 day promotion tour of his upcoming movie - Power cut.
